This role serves as the key bridge between our US-based leadership team (Product, Engineering, QA, and Support) and the local team in Uruguay. As a senior leader, you will be responsible for people management, team development, delivery oversight, and fostering a high-performance engineering culture.
You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams in the US while providing hands-on leadership to a talented team of engineers in Uruguay. You will be instrumental in ensuring alignment between global and local teams, driving execution, and championing collaboration, transparency, and agility across locations.
Key Responsibilities:
People & Team Leadership
- Act as the local leader for the Uruguay engineering team, providing coaching, career development, and performance management.
- Foster a strong team culture, promoting collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
- Identify and develop talent, helping the team grow into a high-performing, autonomous unit.
- Ensure team well-being, engagement, and retention, while fostering alignment with company values.
Execution & Delivery
- Own local execution, ensuring the team delivers on commitments aligned with US product and engineering roadmaps.
- Partner with Product, QA, and Support teams (US-based) to ensure priorities, scope, and timelines are clear and feasible.
- Act as a proxy for US leadership, translating high-level strategy into actionable plans for the local team.
- Drive agile best practices, ensuring the team works efficiently in a distributed, startup environment.
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Serve as the primary connection between Uruguay engineering and the US-based leadership teams (Product, QA, Support, etc.).
- Facilitate regular syncs and updates, ensuring transparency on progress, blockers, and risks.
- Proactively identify and escalate issues, while advocating for the local team’s needs.
- Ensure the team understands the broader business context and customer impact of their work.
Process & Continuous Improvement
- Scrum Master Responsibilities:
- Serve as a Scrum Master for engineering teams, facilitating sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and backlog grooming.
- Ensure the team follows Agile methodologies and best practices for iterative development and continuous delivery.
- Remove roadblocks, identify dependencies, and escalate issues as needed to keep projects on track.
- Promote a culture of ownership and accountability, ensuring the team operates efficiently and meets delivery goals.
- Track and report team velocity, sprint progress, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to stakeholders.
- Code Quality & Reliability: Establish rigorous testing and validation processes to ensure a robust, scalable codebase.
- Optimize Remote Collaboration: Implement and refine processes for efficient distributed teamwork.
- Post-Mortems & Retrospectives: Drive continuous learning and improvement through structured feedback loops.
- 5+ years of experience in engineering leadership or managerial roles, ideally leading distributed or remote teams.
- Experience in high-growth startups or agile environments, with a strong execution mindset.
- Proven experience building, scaling, and coaching high-performance engineering teams.
- Strong background in cross-functional collaboration, particularly with Product, QA, and Support teams.
- Excellent communication skills in English and Spanish, with the ability to operate effectively across cultures and time zones.
- Ability to balance technical depth with leadership responsibilities, making trade-offs between speed and quality.
- Experience working in remote-first or hybrid environments.
- Demonstrated ability to drive process improvements and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- A competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
- An opportunity to be part of a cutting-edge technology company with a dynamic and innovative team.
- Professional growth and development opportunities in a supportive and collaborative work environment.
