Via Separations is a Boston-area startup dedicated to enabling process efficiency and intensification for the industrial sector. In 2024, Via delivered its first commercial facility and changed the narrative around market-driven energy technologies that drive value for industrial customers.  At the intersection of engineering, society, and impact, our team is passionate about making a difference and building the technology and organization to do it.  We are a fast-paced, interdisciplinary team backed by leading venture capital firms, and we are looking to add talented, mission-driven people to our cohort.

We are passionate about transformative impact, optimistic about scientific progress, and unafraid of hard problems. We believe that our people are our unfair advantage, and drive our mission forward. We embrace the diversity of our team for creative solutions and believe the best ideas come from the intersection of disciplines and perspectives. We want you to join us!

Via Separations manufactures industrial filtration systems to drive the transition from expensive, energy-intensive thermal separations to efficient, lower-cost filtration. Via’s Operations team ensures the reliable and effective performance of these systems in commercial settings, providing ongoing support to customers and optimizing performance over time.

As an Operations Engineer, you will serve as the technical owner of commercial system performance. You’ll proactively monitor trends, lead root-cause investigations, interface with customers, and support the broader team in optimizing system performance. You will also play a key role in scaling our team’s operational capacity and informing future system development through field insights. This role has enormous growth potential as headcount increases, system deployments scale, and the organization continues to build scope and influence.

  • Document and track system performance data, troubleshooting outcomes, and implemented improvements to ensure operational visibility and continuity
  • Drive continuous improvement by sharing insights from field performance with engineering and product teams to inform system upgrades and membrane design
  • Support the scale-up of operational workflows by contributing to the development of processes, tools, and documentation for future commercial systems

The ideal candidate will have some, if not all, of these attributes:
  • Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, with 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with industrial system operations or process optimization, or technical customer support.
  • Strong data analysis skills, with the ability to interpret trends and make data-driven recommendations.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with customers and internal teams.
  • Experience with commercial-scale system operations and troubleshooting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with membranes, filtration systems, or separation technologies in an industrial environment is preferred but not required.

Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply for jobs unless they believe they can perform every job description task. We are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job, and that candidate may come from a less traditional background. Via may consider an equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education, and experience to meet minimum qualifications. If you are interested in applying, we encourage you to think broadly about your background and skill set for the role!
