Payroll Senior Manager

The Opportunity   

The Senior Payroll Manager oversees and supervises the organization's daily and bi-weekly payroll functions, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations. In this role, you will be responsible for the customer-focused and efficient delivery of payroll services and payroll tax administration and ensure timely, accurate and compliant delivery of payroll processing.

The Senior Payroll Manager will provide leadership and oversight for the Payroll Team that supports our multi-state organization. This individual must provide hands-on execution, liaise between internal teams, external partners, our employees, and third-party vendors, and develop team members to optimize operational excellence. In this role, you will manage the implementation and operational workflow of administrative procedures as related to pay, tax, and time and attendance and evaluate pay practices to ensure they are accurate and comply with internal policies and practices and multi-state and federal law.

Who You Are  

  • You have proven experience as a Payroll Manager with 
    • 5+ years’ experience processing multi-state full-cycle payroll in a major payroll system
    • 3+ years of people management experience
    • Extensive knowledge in Payroll & Accounting procedures and Payroll Tax Laws & Regulations
    • Experience leading and managing a payroll department for a large corporation
    • Knowledge of ADP WorkforceNow, Kronos & Paychex Flex preferred
    • Experience in system implementation and/or migration
    • Payroll reporting experience
  • You have a demonstrated ability to work effectively under tight time constraints
  • You have high attention to detail, works accurately and quickly
  • You have advanced computer literacy (specific proficiency in Word and Excel), desire to support new products and technologies, demonstrated practical and hands-on (can-do)
  • You have the ability to multitask and maintain a work pace appropriate to workload
  • You have strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional and supportive manner
  • You have the ability to effectively identify and resolve problems and to maintain strict confidentiality related to sensitive information
  • You have the ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate actions to resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Team Management

  • Supervise and evaluate team members through continued training, coaching and development; ensure workload is reasonable, negotiating levels of support across team members and projects
  • Provide leadership for time and attendance, payroll preparation and payroll processing functions to ensure all employees are paid accurately and on time within the payroll system platform
  • Serve as a resource for payroll questions and training for others within the department

Payroll Administration

  • Develop and manage payroll work streamline and proactively seek ways to continuously improve processes and practices that will result in greater efficiencies and better controls
  • Oversee all aspects of the employee verification & wage garnishment process, including entering, monitoring, tracking and notification
  • Ensure the bi-weekly and daily payroll process complies with all applicable federal and state laws and/or regulations
  • Responsible for reviewing employee termination information, including final wage and vacation payout calculations, and ensuring compliance with applicable state final pay laws
  • Ensuring all employee paychecks are accurately calculated, printed, and delivered on time, which may include physically handing out paper checks or electronically distributing direct deposits, while also verifying that all deductions and taxes are correctly calculated and applied.
  • Check for errors in employee timecards, pay rates, and deductions before finalizing payroll processing.
  • Update tax rates and respond to tax inquiries from state agencies and payroll provider
  • Perform various journal entries, account reconciliations, and other duties related to accounting of payroll functions
  • Prepare relevant weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports
  • Monitor the accurate processing of staff transfers, promotions and terminations
  • Maintain payroll guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures
  • Oversee the maintenance of current employee data systems
  • Support all internal and external audits related to payroll
  • Interpret new legislation impacting payroll
  • Manage and resolve issues relating to payroll production
  • Collaborate with HR, accounting and other stakeholders to ensure fair and consistent interpretation and application of payroll policies and procedures
  • Identify and recommend updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Compensation and Benefits  

This is an exempt position and the salary range for this position is $84,100 - 101,500. In an effort to be both equitable and transparent, CEO's compensation philosophy considers a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, experience, internal equity, and home office location in making a final determination on our salary offer.
